Obscure Computers

Howdy. Mark Linimon here. I'm starting work on a website to publish some information on some obscure computers. Most of this information has not been placed on the web elsewhere.

The Rice Research Computer

The Rice Research Computer, later known as the R1 (see below), was constructed at Rice University at the end of the 1950s. This page is our starting point for collecting documents and reminisces from the people who worked on it. It was ahead of its time and stayed in production for many years.

The R2

The R2 was the intended successor to the R1. Mostly due to its attempt to jump many years forward in technology, it was never truly finished and put into production. This page is our starting point for collecting documents and reminisces from the people who worked on it.

The Bendix G-15

The Bendix G-15, later marketed as the Control Data G-15 after a merger, was one of the first small computers to be sold in quantity in the late 1950s. It found its greatest acceptance in civil engineering applications in the US. It was also one of the first systems that did not demand a raised floor. Here I have gathered various links to the remaining few in existance, as well as my own documents and memories.
